Build Projects at The Generator
The Reno Generator offers dedicated build space year round for those needing temporary space to build out something big or small.
Build space is defined as a dedicated space rental to complete a specific project in a predetermined time frame.
Build projects can be anything from Burning Man art projects, personal trailer build-outs, art car fabrication, and everything in-between! Build projects have 24/7 access to The Generators tools and equipment to bring their projects to life.

Spaces are a minimum of 200 square feet. Rates are flexible and based on length of time. Pricing can be found in our policies document.
If you are applying for Burning Man build space, please note that applications are reviewed in April of the applicable year.
As you might know, The Generator was facing some major construction that would have cut our facility by about 20,000 square feet—losing a huge portion of our events and build project space.
The permits were pulled by our building developers and we were planning how to operate in a smaller space. Fortunately, we managed to negotiate with the developers, and we get to keep our entire space. No hallway, no loss of space. This is great for all of us, but it does mean significant goals for The Generator to reach a level of sustainability!
This amazing change of keeping our entire space means more year round studio artists, more build projects, and more community engaging events.
Build Project Pricing:
Weekly Build Projects
1 - 3 Weeks
$1.25 per sq ft per week
Short Term Build Projects:
4 - 7 Weeks
$1.00 per sq ft per week
Long Term Build Projects:
2 - 6 Months
$2.25 per sq ft per Month
Build teams must include a minimum number of team leads with Full Access Memberships based on the size and duration of the project.
Access to shop equipment is only granted after completing the required safety and introductory courses for each shop area.
Team leads are fully responsible for the conduct and safety of their crew members. At least one approved lead must be onsite during all active work on the project.
After completing all required safety training with staff, approved leads may also assist with safety check-offs for new crew members.
1-5 crew members: 1 lead minimum required
6-10 crew members: 2 leads minimum required
11-20 crew members: 3 leads minimum required
21-30 crew members: 4 leads minimum required …etc.
Shorter duration projects typically require more intensive onboarding, scheduling, supervision, and staff support. For this reason, short-term build spaces are priced at a higher weekly rate than long-term projects.
Longer term projects are encouraged whenever possible, as they allow for safer workflows, better planning, and reduced operational strain on shared facilities and staff.
Membership Pricing
Base Membership: $25/month
Wood Shop Access: +$35/month
Metal Shop Access: +$55/month
Fabrication Access: +$75/month
*Only crew members with an active paid membership may use the facility for personal projects. Crew members without a paid membership may only use the facility while working on the approved build project.
